About the Guide
About the New York City Lawyer Directory
Organizing New York City's legal landscape, one listing at a time.
NYC Lawyer Guide began as a simple observation: finding the right attorney in a city as large and varied as New York shouldn't require sorting through pages of paid advertisements just to find someone who actually handles your kind of matter. Every neighborhood in every borough has its own concentration of practice areas, its own courthouses, and its own way of doing things, and a lot of that context gets lost in a generic search engine result page. We wanted to build something that kept the context in.
Our approach
We treat this lawyer directory the way a good reference librarian treats a card catalog: information first, opinion second, and nothing hidden behind a paywall or a lead-generation form. Every listing on this site includes publicly available information about an attorney's practice areas, general location, and how to reach them directly. Where a listing is sponsored or paid, we label it clearly, because we think a directory that quietly blurs the line between an independent listing and a paid placement isn't doing its job.
We are not a law firm, a lawyer referral service, or a substitute for professional legal advice. We don't take a percentage of any fee, we don't guarantee outcomes, and we don't vouch for any individual attorney's competence beyond the factual information presented. Anyone using this site to find legal help should still do their own due diligence, including checking an attorney's standing with the New York State Unified Court System and speaking directly with any attorney before deciding to work with them.
Who this is for
This guide is built for New Yorkers navigating a legal question for the first time as much as for people who already know exactly what kind of attorney they need. If you're not sure where to start, our practice-area pages are written in plain language, explaining broadly what a given area of law covers and what kinds of situations typically lead someone to look for help in it. If you already know what you're looking for, this lawyer directory is built to get you to a short list of relevant names as quickly as possible.
How the guide grows
New York City is large, and we're building this resource deliberately rather than all at once. We're currently focused on the five boroughs and the immediately surrounding metro area, expanding practice area by practice area as we're able to verify and organize listings properly. We'd rather grow slowly and stay useful than publish an exhaustive list that isn't actually reliable.
If you're an attorney practicing in New York City and would like to be included in the directory, or if you notice information on the site that needs to be corrected, we welcome outreach through the contact details listed in our footer. NYC Lawyer Guide is independently owned and operated, and we intend to keep it that way: a straightforward, honest resource for people trying to find their footing in New York City's legal landscape.
